Risha Enterprise, et al. v. Verizon New Jersey Inc. Documents Click here to see documents relating to the Verizon Overcharges case Summary On July 12, 2004, the New Jersey Superior Court approved a settlement with Verizon New Jersey, Inc. In 2002, Mehri & Skalet and co-counsel filed an action against Verizon for overcharging small businesses on their telephone service, in violation of the tariff rates. Specifically, Verizon overcharged some small businesses by $1.01 per month on up to four business lines. One small business represented by Mehri & Skalet was overcharged approximately $93 over the course of two and a half years. Under the settlement Verizon agreed to reimburse identified class members $1.65 for each improper $1.01 charge and a procedure was established for claims to be made for any customers who claimed they were overcharged but could not be identified from Verizon's records. The settlement provided for recovery to approximately 45,000 accounts and the value of payments to class members is approximately $1,725,000.
